School Counselor
Location: Fairbanks North Star Borough School District (FNSBSD)

Schedule: 190 Days | Classification: Certified (FEA)

Role Overview

The School Counselor supports students in academic, personal/social, and career development. With a focus on both preventive services and crisis intervention, the counselor helps students with decision-making, problem-solving, and coping skills.

Key Responsibilities

Deliver a comprehensive counseling program aligned with district and state standards.

Provide individual and group counseling to support student success and well-being.

Assist with course planning, goal setting, and transitions between school levels or post-secondary options.

Respond to referrals and crisis situations with appropriate support and follow-up.

Collaborate with staff, families, and community resources to meet student needs.

Promote an inclusive, respectful, and positive school environment.

Qualifications:

Valid Alaska Type A or C certificate with a counseling endorsement, or the ability to obtain one.

Relevant experience at the grade level served (teaching, counseling, practicum, etc.).

Strong understanding of child development, counseling practices, and equitable education.

Excellent communication, organization, and collaboration skills.
