In-house Contracts Counsel
The Jaeb Center for Health Research is seeking an experienced attorney to fill the role of In-house Contracts Counsel to oversee the Office of Contracts which manages the preparation and negotiation of agreements governing clinical research. Responsibilities include:
- Draft, negotiate, review, and send for execution contracts with a variety of parties including funders, consultants, subcontractors, subrecipients, vendors, and study sites.
- Provide contracts legal guidance and serve as the contract’s legal advisor for JCHR activities.
- Supervise Office of Contracts staff including Contracts Managers and Administrative Staff.
- Review and delegate contract requests from within the organization.
- Monitor staff workload and assign contracts work in accordance with staff skills and abilities as well as workload to ensure that contracts are negotiated and completed in a timely manner.
- Provide secondary review of contracts, answer legal questions, and help Contracts Managers during contract negotiation.
- Maintain professional communication with study staff to develop project timelines and contract management plan for new projects.
- Develop and refine contract templates.
- Review and update department policies and procedures.
- Develop corporate SOPs related to research contracting and associated compliance.
Experience and Qualifications:
- Demonstrated expert proficiency with Microsoft Word and Adobe PDF and general proficiency with other Microsoft applications (Word, Teams, and Outlook).
- Excellent critical thinking skills.
- Outstanding contracts negotiation skills.
- Experience supervising and training staff.
- Excellent time management skills.
- Effective communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively across department, disciplines, and personalities.
- Superior problem-solving skills.
- Previous experience with contract negotiations, preferably in a clinical research setting.
- Juris Doctor degree.
- Active law license.
Salary and Benefits:
Base salary will be commensurate with degree and experience and will range from $140,000-$155,000 annually plus an excellent benefits package. This is a fully remote, work-from-home position and as such, relocation to the Tampa Bay area is not a requirement.
