The duties of this position require the applicant to live on campus at our training academy in Austin, Texas. The training will include some weekends. The training challenges the Recruit both mentally and physically, including a strenuous physical fitness program.
All of the applicants who complete the training and graduate from the academy will be assigned to the Texas Highway Patrol. Duty Station assignments will be given during the Recruit School and will be based upon the needs of the Department. Applicants must be willing to accept assignment anywhere in Texas.
The Texas Highway Patrol protects Texas from public safety threats by conducting high visibility patrol; deterring, detecting and interdicting public safety threats on roadways, providing statewide emergency response and rescue; and utilizing advancements in technology to conduct commercial vehicle enforcement operations. One of our primary functions is to ensure the Texas roadways are safe for all Texans and visitors to our great state. Through an aggressive patrol program, our Troopers work diligently to remove high threat criminals from preying upon our communities. The Texas Highway Patrol responds to natural disasters to protect life and property. The Texas Highway Patrol also assists our local and federal partners in targeting illicit drugs and human trafficking organizations through reconnaissance and visible patrols to our intra-coastal waterways and Rio Grande River.
