Docents help with programs for groups and visitors, birthday parties, events, the museum store, the planetarium and much more. Docents receive extensive paid training in informal education, customer service and basic instruction in several natural history topics, including paleontology, wildlife and ecology.

Responsibilities

  • Greet visitors in Museum
  • Provide high quality customer service to visitors
  • Assist at Museum Public Events
  • Provide educational programming in natural history topics to groups

Required Qualifications

  • Enthusiasm for science
  • Friendly
  • Enjoy working with people, especially children
  • Willingness to learn
  • Ability to effectively communicate with diverse audiences
  • Availability in 3-hour blocks of time between 9am-2pm on at least two weekdays
  • Ability to work some evenings and weekends
  • Able to receive a clean criminal background check prior to hire and working with youth

Desired Qualifications

  • Previous experience with children
  • Knowledge of natural history topics
  • Demonstrated public speaking skills
  • Experience and ability to work well independently and in a team environment
  • Interest in museums and education and science
  • Customer service experience
